Seattle Select High Academic 5th-8th grade teams did a great job in the PEAK League this Fall. 5th grade Runner Up, 6th grade Semi Finalist, 7th grade Runner Up, and 8th grade Champions.
This past weekend was the 2nd year that WCE President Ryan Silver and Seattle Select Owner/Director Chase Young have produced this showcase. Ryan Silver is the the #1 event operator in the nation and runs the Earl Watson Under Armour team program as well. Coach Young has been able to bring college coaches from all over the nation this year to bring even more exposure for these student-athletes, in addition to bringing the NW’s top shooting instructor Donald Watts and conditioning guru Tim Manson to give the student-athletes an incredible learning experience. Together they have been able to create one of the best high academic camps in the nation.
Three different position specific camps were offered in August by Seattle Select High Academic Owner/Director Chase Young. The camps included “Week 1 PG Camp”, “Week 2 Post Camp”, and “Week 3 Shooting Guard Camp”. Coach Young had some of his ex-players who are Division 1 student-athletes come out to help coach and mentor the young hoopers. Kyle Foreman (Boston U), Ty Gibson (Eastern Wa), Glenn Dean (Idaho), Junior Chibuogwu (Seattle U), and Josh Martin (Cal Poly) were among some of the coaches.
Tryouts are over for the Fall. Please check back later for Winter tryout information.
Seattle Select Warriors 8th grade team has been ranked as high as #2 in the nation and earned a bid from Brian Hershman at the World Championships in San Diego. In their first game they knocked off last year’s world champs Thunderstuck from Florida. In bracket play Seattle Select ran into #1 ranked Vegas Elite where they lost by 1 in one of the most exciting games of the year. They battled back and went up the loser side eventually losing to the Dragons from New York. It was a great experience for the players to play on such a big stage against some of the best teams in the world.
Seattle Select High Academic has made a huge push to attend elite and high academic camps in order to get maximum exposure to college coaches and high academic institutes from around the nation. In the two days prior the Las Vegas Big Foot tournament, Seattle Select had a huge showing at the Super Bowl camp with 23 student-athletes participating from the HS program. Many of Seattle Select student-athletes were able to connect directly with college coaches at the camp and director Chase Young received a ton of positive feedback about the elite players in the program. While most of the teams and players from around the nation travel to Vegas just for the NCAA sanctioned tournament to get noticed by college coaches, the Seattle Select HA teams and players had already caught the eye of dozens of college coaches and scouts at the WCE Super Bowl camp.
The Seattle Select HA 2019 team went 3-1 in the WCE Summer Classic at Pomona College getting the opportunity to play in front of 100’s of coaches. Following the showcase a dozen of our student-athletes were invited to participate in the WCE Elite 100 camp which included elite players from all over the world. This event had more college coaches in attendance all under one roof than any other event on the west coast. We were honored to have some of our student-athletes make all-star teams at the end of the camp. 2021 student-athlete John Christofilis made the Elite MS All-Star Game, 2019 student-athletes Kenny Curtis, Charles Elzie III, and Cristian Colwell made the Elite Sophomore All-Star Game, and 2019 student-athlete Clayton Whitman made the Elite 40 All-Star Game.
The Battle in Seattle has grown every year and this year we hosted some of the top programs from the west coast such as Cali Elite, Seattle Rotary Style, NW Panthers, Drive Elite, WA Supreme, and host program Seattle Select High Academic. Although the tournament is not an NCAA sanctioned event, we still had college coaches from the D2, D3 and NAIA programs such as Seattle Pacific University, Western Oregon, Concordia, Central, UPS, Willamette, Whitman, Pacific Lu, NW University, Lewis and Clark and many others.
The Seattle Select High Academic teams had a great showing in Salem, OR for the Hoop Memorial Day Invitational. The program was honored to be invited to visit Willamette’s campus and athletic facility. All the players, parents, and coaches were very appreciative to Willamette assistant coach Nathan Covill who gave our student-athletes an amazing experience.
